Meet your licensed guide at Eleftherias Square, in front of the Astoria Capsis Hotel, at 08:30. Board our comfortable coach and drive approximately 5 km southeast of Heraklion to reach the Knossos Palace.
This legendary palace was the center of the Minoan civilization and dates back to 1700–1400 BC. It featured advanced architecture, including multi-story buildings, ventilation systems, and stunning frescoes. Some sections of the palace reached up to five stories high, showcasing the brilliance of Minoan engineering. Knossos is considered the oldest city in Europe, with settlements dating back to the Neolithic period.
Archaeological remains from around 7000 BC have been discovered throughout Crete, especially in Knossos. During your guided tour, explore the impressive ruins and hear myths like that of King Minos and the Minotaur.
The palace included over 1,300 interconnected rooms, storerooms, workshops, and even a small theater. Large clay jars once stored oil, grains, beans, dried fish, and olives—often hiding treasures beneath. The site was first identified in 1878 by Cretan archaeologist Minos Kalokairinos. Extensive excavations began in 1900 by British archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans and lasted for over 35 years.
After your visit, enjoy the scenic drive back to Heraklion.
The tour concludes around 11:30 at the original meeting point, in front of the Astoria Capsis Hotel.
